Application Process- A Step-by-Step Guide
*Effective May 31st, 2024, the Alabama State Department of Education changed the platform for hiring all employees throughout the entire state from SearchSoft/Teach in Alabama to HireTrue. All applications completed on the SearchSoft/Teach in Alabama site are no longer active, and account information did not transfer over to the new system.*
*Candidates who applied for positions in the old SeachSoft/Teach in Alabama platform MUST create an account and reapply for positions on Alabama's State Department of Education HireTrue Job Board.*
Notification
All official job openings (excluding substitutes- see below for Substitute information) for Colbert County Schools are posted on Alabama's State Department of Education HireTrue Job Board.
Process
An application must be completed online at the Alabama's State Department of Education HireTrue site to be considered for the vacant position.
- During the School Year:
- Certified positions are posted for 7 calendar days, except in emergency conditions.
- Classified positions are posted for 7 calendar days, except in emergency conditions.
- Administrative positions are posted for 14 calendar days, except in emergency conditions.
- Outside of the School Year:
- Certified positions are posted for 14 calendar days, except in emergency conditions.
- Classified positions are posted for 14 calendar days, except in emergency conditions.
- Administrative positions are posted for 14 calendar days, except in emergency conditions.
The application process may vary depending on the type of employment one is seeking. Position classifications are as follows:
- Administrative: Building Administrators, Principals, Assistant Principals, Central Office Directors, Central Office Administrators, and other supervisory positions that may require a valid administrative certification.
- Certified: Classroom Teachers, Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, School Counselors, and other positions that may require a valid certification.
- Classified: Support Staff, Custodial, Maintenance, Instructional Aides, Technicians, Bookkeepers, Secretaries, Transportation, Cafeteria, Nurses, Technology, and other positions that do not require a valid certification.
Substitute Information- Kelly Services is the official partner for all substitute services for Colbert County Schools.
- Substitute positions are not posted to the ALSDE HireTrue Job Board.

Administrative, Certified, and Classified Applications
STEP 1: Application & Accompanying Documentation
- Create a Candidate Registration
- Choose the position you would like to apply for at Alabama's State Department of Education HireTrue Job Board.
- Click Apply for Position in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Enter your current, valid email address and password to create your Candidate Registration.
- Registration only needs to be completed one time and will serve as your account moving forward.
- If you have already created an account, choose Existing Candidate in the upper-right corner.
- Complete all sections of the Application, including all required uploaded documents.
- Incomplete Applications may disqualify a candidate for consideration.
- Submit the Application and look for a confirmation email to verify.
- Apply for other positions with the Candidate Registration you created.
- Continually update your account with correct phone numbers, addresses, and email accounts.
STEP 2: Screening
- Applications are reviewed to determine if the applicant meets the requirements for the vacancy.
- Applications are then reviewed to determine the most qualified candidates for current and anticipated vacancies.
STEP 3: Interviews
- Applicants will be scheduled for interviews on the basis of need by the school system.
- Interviews may be conducted by Principals or Central Office personnel.
- Interview Committees may include parents, community members, or other current employees.
- To help evaluate applicants fairly and test a variety of skills, performance-based tasks (i.e. Technical, Problem-Solving, Personality, Communication, Creativity, etc.) may be utilized according to the position.
STEP 4: Recommendations
- Prior to any recommendation for employment, an applicant:
- Must have a completed application on file.
- Must have completed the interview process.
- Must have been evaluated and recommended by the hiring manager.
STEP 5: Appointment
- Appointment to a position is made by the Board of Education after a candidate:
- Has verbally accepted an employment offer
- Has completed the process to obtain a valid Alabama Teacher Certificate (Certified Positions Only)
- Has passed a criminal background check
STEP 6: Required Background & Fingerprint
- Implementation of the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 requires new employees who have not completed a background review through the Alabama State Department of Education since July 1, 1999, to obtain an ABI and FBI Background review.
- Create an AIM Account https://aim.alsde.edu
- Complete Background Check Registration in AIM.
- Create Fieldprint Account Step.
- Complete authorization forms, schedule appointment, and pay the fee online.
- Report for fingerprint appointment.
- Submit ALSDE ID (AIM account number xxx-xxx-xxx) and Fingerprint Results to Colbert County Schools.
- *Salary placement is based upon verification of experience. See Salary Schedule. The applicant must contact their prior employer(s) and have verification of experience forwarded to Colbert County Schools. All applicants will start on the salary schedule at level -0- and will remain there until verification of experience has been received.
STEP 7: Orientation
- Central Office personnel will reach out to all new employees to schedule New Employee Orientation, if applicable.
